"Programme-makers today are faced with a huge challenge as they aim to educate and entertain children whose viewing skills and choices are already extremely sophisticated.
This makes the Academy's role in recognising and rewarding excellence in Children's film and television all the more vital. In a country with the richest, most diverse children's television in the world, the British Academy Children's Film & Television Awards acknowledge distinction in this very challenging field of expertise.
The 10th British Academy Children's Film & Television Awards in association with Time Warner were held on Sunday 27 November 2005 at the London Hilton.
The ceremony attracted almost 700 guests from all corners of the industry and the categories judged included Animation, Drama, Entertainment, Factual, Feature Film, Interactive, International, Pre-school animation, Pre-school Live Action, Presenter, Schools Drama, Schools Factual: Primary, Schools Factual: Secondary, Writer-Adapted and Writer-Original.
The annual Awards reach out not only to film and programme-makers whose expertise is recognised, but also to children themselves who are mobilised to vote for their favourite film via the BAFTA Kids' Vote. The final 10 films are selected from the top box office family-oriented pictures of the year. The nationwide poll was run on the CBBC and CiTV websites and supported by free screenings at 20 Cineworld sites as part of their Cineworld Movies for Juniors programme. A record number of children (over 32,500) voted in 2005."
