Peter talks the gang through working the autocue pedal...
Workshop members were given a guided tour by the lovely Lunchtime Presenter Peter Rowell who talked the group through how everything works. The autocue system, which camera to look at and lots of other useful tips on how to make it as a News Presenter!! He also regailed us with tales of his years of experience as a Presenter and answered the workshop member's many questions.
Sky tests the Presenter's couch!
And they even got to sit on the famous sofas - the ones the presenters sit on every day to read the news! And have a go themselves!! They all decided that it was definitely much harder than it looks...
The term's work for the 13-16 workshop members was presenting, both as reporters, News Anchors and independent presenters too so it was an absolutely fantastic opportunity for them all to see how it is really done!
The guys with Gallery Director Jools.
After their trip in the actual studio, the workshop members then had a tour around the gallery - the place where the magic happens! They saw how the remote cameras were moved around, how vision mixing was done, how the talkback system worked and what a Director, Producer and PA actually do. They were then lucky enough to watch the lunchtime broadcast as it was being aired and saw all of the guys in action.
The last stop on this whistle stop tour was having a quick glimpse at how the weather presenters do their job. Alex Beresford kindly stepped in and showed the group how the weather charts were configured and how weather presenters do their job in front of a green screen.
Young workshop member Reece has a go at compiling the weather charts - watched over by Alex...
All in all a fantastic experience for the young workshop members! |
