The Workshop welcomed Lisa Ruthven as the new Workshop Leader in January 2007!!! Lisa had previously been the Co-Ordinator for 6 years who taught many of the workshops and directed numerous productions and short films... so was an old hand at workshop activities!
Lisa says;
'I am really pleased to be the new Workshop Leader and hope to take the workshop forward! I am currently directing 'Asylum' which is on in four weeks here at ITV WEST and then we have 'A Christmas Carol' on in December and two films in pre-production - so it's all go!
I've also set up a collaboration with ITV WEST's Soccer Night to offer Production Skills members work experience, which seems to be paying dividends.
It's invaluable learning how a live television program works and being part of the team and the members have really learned a lot from the experience.
And then next year we have more shows and films in the pipeline and are hoping to take a production to the 'Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan Festival' in Canada!! The workshop certainly won't stand still while I am at the helm!'
As Lisa is now the Workshop Leader, the search began for a 'wingman' a 'second in command' Workshop Co-Ordinator to help share the load. Long-term workshop member and teaching assistant Sam Cordy was offered the role in April 2007. Sam has been a member of the workshop for five years and has taken part in a number of productions, short films and workshop tours to other countries - so he knew exactly how the workshop, well... worked!!
Sam says;
'As I am still a member of the workshop, I find it really funny that I have to send letters to myself! But seriously, it's great to be part of a team who encourages the energy and creativity in young people - it's made a great difference to my life and my writing. I would never have taken up script writing if it wasn't for the encouragement and skills I learned at the workshop.
It's great that now I can help others to realise their potential and give it a go - whether it be acting, writing, presenting or directing!'
